About Us

Coastal Enterprises Ltd. was incorporated in 1971 by the late Harley Thompson who came from a family of fish buyers and processors dating back to the early 1900’s.  This family owned and operated business has been serving the area for over 30 years.  The present owners are: Richard Thompson, President, Andy Thompson, Vice-President and Shirley Chartier, Secretary – Treasurer.  Richard is captain of the company’s fishing vessel, The Ocean Pride II, which brings in scallops and ground fish.  He also oversees the Lobster fishery for the company.  Andy oversees the operations at our two Federally Licensed Processing facilities, Misty Harbour Seafood in Saint John, N.B. and Misty Island Seafood on White Head Island, N.B.  Shirley is responsible for the company’s business administrations.

Our head office is located in the beautiful and picturesque village of Dipper Harbour, N.B. Canada.  We have 15-20 employees here, 6-8 employees at our Misty Harbour Seafood Plant and 1-3 employees at our Misty Island Seafood Plant.  Our buyers are located on most major wharves from Beaver Harbour to St. Martins, N.B.  They purchase fresh fish and shellfish directly from the fishermen on the Bay of Fundy.

Our state of the art Lobster Tank House is located near our head office in Dipper Harbour.  The Lobsters are stored in large cages, which are divided into compartments to ensure that they do not “clip” one another with their large claws.  Here they can be kept for many months to ensure a fresh supply of healthy lobster even during the off season.

Misty Harbour Seafood, our main distribution plant, is located on the West Side of Saint John, N.B.  Here we purchase, process and sell various types of seafood; lobster, scallops, clams, haddock, halibut, cod, periwinkles and so much more.  Our sales staff, Andy Thompson & Sam Patterson, are always there to assist you with whatever product you are hoping to find.  Their convenient location makes it ideal to supply the immediate area of Saint John and neighboring cities throughout the province as well as shipping anywhere in North America by plane or truck.

Our secondary plant, Misty Island Seafood, is located on White Head Island, which is accessed via Grand Manan Island, N.B.  Here we purchase and process lobster, scallops, clams, periwinkles, crabs, dulse and various groundfish.  Because of its remote location in the approaches to the Bay of Fundy, this unique buying station gives us easy access to fresh seafood products from some of the most prime fishing grounds on the East Coast.
